In 1978, the original owners were bought out by a trio of investors led by Bob Fisher who changed the format of the club to stand-up comedy. Its homemade ice cream continues to impress generation after generation. Under their ownership, Yardley Ice House won Best of Philly in 2003, 2012, 2013 and in 2016 when it graced the cover of Philadelphia Magazine as the best water ice in the Delaware Valley.

In 1994, Susan and John Bissert opened the Yardley Ice House. They crafted gourmet water ice in their small store that offered original flavors made with the best ingredients. Other water ice stores in the area only served standard flavors that were typically manufactured elsewhere and bought in bulk. They wanted to create a place that the community would gather to enjoy delicious desserts and each other’s company. In addition to its wildly popular gourmet water ice, the Newtown Ice House will offer old-fashioned soft-serve custard and fat-free ice cream, gelatis, sundaes, shakes, malts, floats and blend-ins. The Ice House uses only top shelf, premium ingredients to make its hand crafted frozen treats setting it apart from its competitors, said Jackie. Because the ice maker is so big, Jackie said ice making operations will be located in Yardley with the ice being transported to Newtown where the ingredients will be added. The menu was limited at first, but they soon began featuring favorites like Orange Creamsicle and Cherry Bordeaux, and quickly developed a large following. They have since expanded their menu to include over 80 unique flavors, like Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. One big change from the Yardley Ice House is that the Newtown location will be accepting credit cards. When the store does open, hours will be from noon to 10 p.m. The store will be seasonal, closing sometime in mid to late fall.
